How a Cheap Shot Will Set You Free

The video came via text. “Keep your eye on 24.”

I hit play and watched 24 position herself in front of the goalie, in position for the face-off. Blamo! Out of no where the goalie cheap-shotted 24 and gave her an unprovoked shove from behind.

24 did what needed to be done and gave her a shove right back. Then backed off.

The thing is, the game was already chippy and that shove set off more shoves and some general mayhem ensued. 24 continued to skate away, but had caught the eye of the ref. He grabbed her Jersey to pull her aside. Unknown words were spoken and she gave him a decided “remove your hand from my jersey” shrug.

24 is my niece Lily. Often described on the ice/field (depending on the sport) as SAVAGE. She’s fast as hell, takes no prisoners, and is full of that internal fire that only can be described as “badass.” Watching her gets you FIRED UP and full of BRING IT ENERGY.

Andddd, watching her score a goal always results in this Auntie misty as hell and trying to hold it together. Because like auntie like niece-y, Lily can be her own worst enemy.

When she’s out there playing you’d have no idea that she gets a bit nervous. Can be a little anxious. Can doubt her ability. (Same girl, same.)

I asked my bro what she said to the ref.

“Get off me.”

I watched that video approximately 354 times.

The cheap shot.

Lily’s reaction: oh-no-you-did-not and an equal response back.

Backing off.

Being pulled away by the ref, when at that point it was other people causing trouble.

GET OFF ME

That moment, Lily inspired a 2026 vibe. A 2026 meme. A 2026 energy.

GET OFF ME

The moments of uncertainty. GET OFF ME.

The self-doubt. GET OFF ME.

The haters that are gonna hate. GET OFF ME.

Anything less than thoughts of expansiveness and possibility and “why not me?” GET OFF ME.

People who don’t show up fully. Own their shit. Engage. GET OFF ME.

Getting taken out by the world that is out of control. GET OFF ME.

I’m not standing for it.
I’m not letting any of it in.

I’ve got too much to do.

Too many expansive, impactful, and powerful things that are fueling my energy right now.

GET OFF ME.

It’ll creep in. It always does. Life loves to bombard us with cheap shots. The doubt, the confusion, the uncertainty. But I, for one, am going to shake it off and tell it to GET OFF and go about my business. Grounded. With power.

How about you?

When you’re starting your meeting and the thought pops in of, “Am I prepared?” You say: GET OFF ME I KNOW MY STUFF.

When you’re sitting down on that panel at the conference and you think, “Oh God, are they going to ask me something random that I won’t know how to answer?” You say: GET OFF ME I AM QUICK ON MY FEET.

When you contemplate avoiding that conversation one more time you say GET OFF ME, do the hard thing, and engage.

When you think OMG how am I going to get it all done and how do we do any of it when dumpster fires are everywhere you say: GET OFF ME I’m doing this one step at a time.

It’s not a flail. It’s not a punch out. It’s not a defensive move; it’s an offensive tactic.

It’s a grounded we are not letting this energy, this stuff that’s out of our control take us out.

We are grounding and anchoring into our SAVAGE selves.

In the power we own.

In the unique way we show up.

In confidence in our abilities.

In the expression of our strengths.

That, we own.

All of that, we embrace.

We let ourselves see what others see in us, just like I see the power, strength, and spice in Lily.

We let ourselves trust what we got in ourselves.

Because when we do, we shine.

In your next moment of pressure or shakiness, anchor in and tell the rest to “GET OFF ME.”

That’s my 2026 energy.

You with me?
